Leonardo da Vinci’s Aerial Screw Concept

Leonardo da Vinci sketched his aerial screw centuries before powered flight. This model kit turns that vertical-lift concept into a mechanical construction kit with visible moving sections. The finished design places the double-helix wing assembly above an exposed industrial engine layout, connecting the historic flight idea with ROKR’s Industrial City format.

Visible Mechanics

Six-Cylinder Engine and Double-Helix Wings

The mechanism pairs a six-cylinder radial engine with double-helix wings, a two-blade propeller, and a conveyor-style drive crank. When powered, the pistons and linked transmission move as the upper wing assembly turns. This mechanical puzzle keeps its engine and drive components visible, making the working layout easy to inspect from different angles.

Light Effects

LED-Lit Furnace and Steam Effect

A red-orange LED illuminates the transparent furnace chamber, while the chimney adds a steam effect during operation. The light stays concentrated around the furnace core and remains visible between the surrounding pipes, gears, and engine sections. These effects give the powered model a distinct steam-engine element without covering its mechanical layout.

Power Options

Type-C Power and Dual Linkage Modes

Da Vinci Helicopter can operate independently with Type-C power or link with other Industrial City models. Wireless linkage allows synchronized control with flexible placement under 5 meters, while the electric track provides a wired connection method. Track connectors are sold separately, and a Type-C power cable is not included.

Assembly Profile

154-Piece, Three-Hour Assembly

Assembly is based on 154 pieces and an estimated three-hour build time, with the model rated at medium difficulty. Numbered parts correspond with visual instructions in the manual, so each stage can be matched to the diagrams. The build combines the engine, furnace, drive system, and upper wing structure into one mechanical model.

Display Dimensions

Vertical Industrial City Display

At 111 × 94 × 255 mm, the completed DIY model has a narrow footprint and tall vertical profile. The round base supports the exposed engine assembly, while the double-helix wings extend upward to the full 255 mm height. This proportion fits the Industrial City concept as a compact desktop mechanical display.
