Prime Steam Express Assembly

This DIY wooden model starts with 308 plywood pieces. Laser-cut tabs and slots hold the components together without glue. Numbered parts match the assembly diagrams, so you can identify each piece before fitting it into place. The build progresses from the internal frame to the outer panels and individual fittings.

Smokestack and Cab

A slatted cowcatcher projects from the locomotive's front, below a circular faceplate and headlight detail. A tall smokestack and whistle detail sit above the boiler. Toward the rear, the cab has open windows and a curved roof, with small steps positioned beneath the doorway on each side.

Wheel Arrangement

Crankshaft and Connecting Rods

The wheel assembly combines a crankshaft, connecting rods, and three large spoked wheels on each side. Smaller wheels sit toward the front and beneath the cab. Open sections along the body reveal wooden gears, giving you a clear view of how the different parts are arranged beneath the boiler.

Rear Carriage

Detachable Tender and Storage

Behind the locomotive, a detachable tender provides a small storage compartment. You can separate it from the engine for easier handling, then reconnect the two sections.
