Romantic Note Wooden Construction Kit

Plan on about 5.5 hours to assemble this 231-piece DIY wooden model. The difficulty level is hard, rated four out of five stars. Numbered parts and printed instructions guide you through the build. Interlocking joints connect the wooden pieces without glue, while the moving assemblies need careful fitting and alignment.

Victorian Dial Details

This wooden model kit has a muted blue, peach, and cream finish. Raised Roman numerals surround black hands, with laurel patterns around the center and scrollwork above and below the dial. Layered plywood adds depth to the oval face, while the dyed finish leaves the wood grain visible.

Everyday Timekeeping

Quartz Movement

A quartz movement drives the hour, minute, and second hands, with a smooth sweep of the second hand. It runs on one 1.5V AA battery, which you’ll need to supply. The clock movement handles timekeeping independently of the hanging pendulum and its mechanical drive system.

Mechanical Motion

Gravity Pendulum

This mechanical wooden puzzle uses a descending counterweight to drive five gears and an escapement that controls the pendulum’s swing. You can watch the gear train move through the open frame. With the weight correctly loaded and the mechanism adjusted, the pendulum can swing for up to four hours.

Counterweight Setup

Weight and Lubrication

Fill the cylindrical weight with 300–450 g of your own coins or small steel balls before starting the pendulum. Lubricate the gears with a little wax to reduce friction. Pay particular attention to the contact between the escapement wheel and its fork when checking the mechanism during setup.

Mounting and Leveling

The assembled size is 298 × 107 × 644 mm, or about 11.7 × 4.2 × 25.4 inches. Hook and nail mounting options are included. A rear adjustment dial allows 5° of correction in either direction to level the mechanism. Leave room below for the pendulum, descending weight, and cord.
