Assembled size

Functional Wooden Microscope

This DIY Wooden Model turns the structure of a microscope into a hands-on assembly project rather than a static display. Once complete, the rotating nosepiece, focus control, specimen platform, and light remain functional. Exposed gears and engraved details stay visible in the finished model, making its mechanical structure part of the desktop display.

Optical System

Revolving Lens Assembly

The revolving nosepiece carries three selectable lenses, giving the finished Mechanical Wooden Puzzle a functional optical assembly rather than a decorative lens cluster. Rotate the turret to change the viewing lens, then use the eyepiece to inspect small samples. The lens assembly remains accessible and adjustable after the model is complete.

Focus Control

Worm-Gear Focus Mechanism

Focusing is controlled by the large side knob and a worm-and-gear mechanism inside the frame. Each full turn raises or lowers the lens barrel by 4.5 mm and produces an audible click. This measured movement provides a practical way to fine-tune the distance between the lens and specimen during viewing.

Specimen Stage

Illuminated Specimen Platform

The specimen platform includes metal slide clips that keep a slide steady while you adjust the view. An adjustable LED fill light illuminates the sample, while green and blue switchable filters change contrast. The light runs on two AAA batteries, which are not included. Lighting, filtering, and slide positioning remain controls on the finished model.

Build Profile

260-Piece Assembly

With 260 pieces, a six-hour assembly estimate, and a four-star difficulty rating, this Wooden Model Kit is built for a more involved project. Assembly uses glue-free numbered parts and visual instructions. As a Wooden Construction Kit, careful alignment matters so the finished controls and moving sections can operate together.

Finished Form

Vintage Scientific-Instrument Design

The finished model measures 185 × 145 × 300 mm, giving it the proportions of a compact scientific instrument. Its curved frame combines exposed gears, layered wooden sections, geometric lattice paneling, and scrollwork. The shape echoes a vintage microscope, while the visible mechanisms remain part of the finished desktop display.
