Space Shuttle Launch Complex

Assembly forms a complete launch complex rather than only the orbiter. This DIY wooden model combines the shuttle, twin boosters, launch tower, seven-deck terminal, mechanical base, and track system in one connected structure. All sections are assembled onto the same base, keeping the spacecraft and ground equipment integrated in the finished model.

Launch Mechanics

Motorized Track and Robotic Arms

A motor drives the launch-pad track through a chain of interlocking gears, raising the shuttle from horizontal to a vertical launch position. During the sequence, the tower’s robotic arms rotate 90 degrees and retract. The same mechanism supports horizontal recovery, giving this mechanical wooden puzzle both lift and return movement.

Light Sequence

Countdown and Flame Lighting

The launch sequence uses three light effects. A countdown light flashes six times before liftoff, while the center beneath the shuttle glows orange and the outer ring glows blue. Power comes through a 5V USB connection, and a Type-C power cable is required for operation but is not included.

This wooden model kit includes a seven-deck terminal with separate command and test zones alongside the shuttle and launch tower. Multiple platforms, mechanical arms, terminal sections, and tower components are built into the same base.
