Classic City Tram Assembly

Plan on about five hours for this 374-piece wooden construction kit, with a difficulty rating of 4/5. Laser-cut plywood parts connect through mortise-and-tenon joints: tabs fit into matching slots. Numbered pieces and illustrated instructions guide the build, from the internal mechanism to the tram body and decorative parts.

Spring Power

Winding Handle and Brake Lever

Move the spring handle back and forth 12 times, then set the brake lever to ON. Stored spring energy drives this mechanical wooden puzzle forward across a flat surface. A full wind gives it an approximate travel distance of 10–16 feet (3–5 meters), so leave a clear path ahead.

Gear Transmission

Visible Gears and Wheel Linkages

Inside the tram, a multistage gear train transfers power to the wheels, while a regulator controls the running speed. Large side openings expose the mechanism, and the wheel linkages sit below the body. Fans of mechanical puzzles can trace the movement from one gear to the next.

Cab Details

Destination Board and Passenger Doors

A knob on the roof changes the destination displayed above the cab windows. The doors open by hand, revealing a passenger with a coat over one arm and a briefcase. A driver figure is visible behind the control wheel at the opposite end of this DIY wooden model.

Overhead Line

Articulated Pantograph and Tram Stop

The single-arm pantograph folds at its joints, letting you adjust its height by hand. For station mode, position the tram on the included track beneath the overhead line. A traffic signal stands beside the track, and two small bird figures perch on the line above the tram.

Display Space

Assembled Size and Shelf Clearance

Allow 11.3 inches in length, 6.5 inches in width, and 9.7 inches in height for the assembled model (287 × 165 × 247 mm). Keep some clearance above the overhead line when choosing a shelf. This wooden model kit makes a freestanding display for a desk or model collection.
